Who is the real "me"?

I know there are two entities living inside me. There is one that is fully active, making a lot of noises, running here and there, both physically as well as mentally. And second is that does not engage with anything and is fully at peace. First one is the body-mind organism which is always in motion and on the go. This is the part that is in touch with the world. It acts, reacts, gets angry, raises demands, and go out and acquire things. This is kinetic energy which is always in action. This is confused and in conflict all the time. This is the part that logically thinks, set goals, performs calculations, seeks profits and pleasures and avoids loss and pain. It is worried and anxious. It is this that gets fearful, ruminates about the past or broods about the future. It does make plans about the future. It is the one that is agitated and always want to do something else and be somewhere else compared to what is doing and where it is currently. Always on the move.  The other p...

Goal of life

Does life really have a purpose? Even if there is one, is it about finding a specific thing, which could be a passion, a true calling or a meaningful work which one finds worth doing? Or is it about something else? Purpose is to get to a state of mind where the mind is quiet and tranquil in all circumstances. This is also a state where the mind does not crave for anything and thus it is generally happy. This state is also known as sthitprajna . Rather than trying to change external circumstances one is looking for the fountainhead of peace and happiness that is inside and not outside. The purpose is to get to this state.  In the above state, one is happy everywhere, no matter what the circumstances are. As a corollary to that, if one is not happy in a given circumstance, he or she will not be happy in other location or circumstance. There could be some happiness for some time but it will not be a long-lasting happiness.  This is the goal of life.  So, what does this...

The Light and the original frequency

There is a Light, a big bundle of beautiful and pure effulgent light that is radiating peace and love. This light is present everywhere and is the basis of the existence of the entire manifested universe. But its frequency is not in the visible range of the spectrum.  It is underneath and overneath it and is not only inter-woven with its fabric but itself is the very fabric of the material universe. The whole world is inside this, pervaded and fully enveloped by this from all sides, even though it is not visible to the human eyes. The human body-mind has a center that is of the same essence and is operating at the same frequency as that of that effulgent light. This center in the human body-mind is connected with the light through very subtle and invisible connections. This center can tune-in and out of this frequency. This original frequency is of silence and stillness and pure unconditional love. This center can loosely be thought of as the human mind, which gets out of tune beca...

Gita

Gita is the song of the Lord. It is Krishna's call to everyone to get back home. It seems that we have wandered far away from our home and like a shepherd guiding his sheep, Krishna is guiding us back to our home. So, it is a journey from forgetfulness to remembrance. Remembering who we are and where did we come from, and where we also need to return. Krishna is saying to all of us - come to me. Maamekam sharanam vraj .  Krishna is everywhere. He also resides in our hearts. We all came from him. We are a small part of Krishna and there is a small spark of his divinity inside all of us. He is asking us to go back to him, the source. He is our home. Going back home is going back to Krishna and that is going inside to the innermost layers of our beings, and connecting with the Krishna that is inside our hearts. And how could we do that? What keeps us away from him and what lies between him and us? Why have we drifted away? We have many desires, and these desires pull us away. Our sens...

Fear of death

Sri M says that the fear of death is not actually the fear of unknown, but it is actually the fear of losing our possessions at the time of death. This fear springs out of our ignorance that we cannot remain happy without these things. And this results into a strong attachment to worldly objects and relationships, and the desire to hold on to these as well as the fear of losing them. Can we be free from this fear, which would mean to be free from the attachments and desires, which would mean to be free of that ignorance?

Practice these all the time!

Practice the following consciously all the time - just be .... feel that you are in His presence always - be free from the urge to act as well as the urge not to act (resistance) ..... but do what comes to you as necessary .. do what must be done - be watchful of what's going on in the mind ... keep the central unbroken thought of the Lord and Guru inside all the time.. let other thoughts come and go on the surface ... keep the mind occupied on the self all the time - it is possible to be happy .. it is a choice and needs conscious effort .. and now is the time .... so, be happy now .. irrespective of anything and everything .. everything that is working or not working - let the desire of liberation be the strongest desire .. sublimate all other desires under that  - allow the mind to gradually become empty .. empty of everything ... empty of all constructs and designs, all calculations and contrivances, all conceptualizations and definitions, all hankerings and motives ... s...

Then, it can happen!

This is urgent. Never felt the urgency of this like what I am feeling now. Feel that I have been wasting time, thinking all this while, that one day I will get there. But no, many years have passed just like that. I am still the same.  This has to be dealt with NOW. If not now then when! But what do I do? It is not in my hands.  Something must happen now. But what do I expect to happen? An experience that somehow reveals my true essence (Self) to me, and that grounds me in an unfailing understanding that I am eternal and ONE with everything.  But that would need a prepared mind. Quiet and silent. Consistently practicing saadhna for a long time (nairantarya abhyasa) can prepare a mind for that.  It will also need a desperate mind that wants this more than anything else in this world. But this is hard to come by. Desperate yet quiet.   Then, it can happen.

Still water

The mud settles when the water becomes completely still. Only when the water is still and the mud has fully settled, it realizes that it is water, free of the mud. until then it identifies itself as the muddy water. This mud in the water can be any of the following: - fear, worries and concerns of the mind - desire to achieve something, create something or the urge to do anything - need to protect our image - need to avoid a situation - need to prevent something from happening - overthinking on a subject, constant thinking or planning - feelings of hurt, anger If all the above are mud, then what is still water? it is the water that has gotten itself rid of the mud and is still, without a movement. It is the QUIET, STILL, EMPTY mind.

Happiness a skill

Happiness is a skill that can be learnt and practiced. Happiness is the lack of an urge or desire to seek, grab, acquire and gather more. This desire drives us to go out in the world and act with a motive to achieve more. Now, where is this desire coming from? This comes from a feeling that we have deep within us, which tells us that we do not have enough and we need more. A simple example that will help us understand this fact better is our eating pattern. When do we eat or when do we have the desire to eat? The nature has built us in a way that makes us want to eat only when we are hungry. However, some of us may like to eat even when they are not hungry but because they are not able to resist the temptation to eat something which they are really fond of. But, generally speaking, if we feel that we are not hungry, then we dont have this urge to eat. Similarly, if we dont feel that we need something, then we will not run helter-skelter to get that thing, be it a bike, an iPhone, an ex...
