What is it that all of us are seeking?

Our incessant engagements and continuous toil must indicate that we are in search of something. One thing is very clear. We can safely conclude that despite all this running around, whatever that we are seeking, we have not been to get that. So, if it has not happened so far, it is possible that it may not happen in future as well, if we continue to look for it wherever we are looking for it currently, which is outside in the world. By keeping ourselves busy, by chasing stuff, gathering things, getting into relationships, changing professions, changing locations, etc. we have not been able to get there.

But it does not mean that we haven't got anything so far. Many of us have attained success, become rich, built reputations, acquired knowledge, become well-known authorities in different fields and acquired many other things. This has indeed been an outcome of the relentless pursuit and our diligent efforts in the world.

But are we satisfied. Do we feel that we have enough? Or, has our eagerness to continue doing this has increased with time?

Is there a point where we would feel that we have enough, and we won't want to gather any further?

I don't think that we find contentment in our hearts. Otherwise, we would have slowed down on our paths of success and acquisitions. At least in our hearts the desire to achieve more and do more would not be harbored any more. But the fact is that we continue with the same vigor, desire and expectations.

Connecting all of these, the point I am trying to make is that probably it is this contentment that we are seeking. Because if it is not for it, we would be running around till the last breath. But life cannot be that pointless or that meaningless, which it has been for us thus far. Can we close our eyes and ask ourselves what is it that we are living for? How happy would we be if the life continues like this forever? Will that be something that we are living for? Or are we living for a life that is filled with love, happiness, joy and contentment all around? If we are honest to ourselves, we would know our answers.

But if that is the case, why do we continue to live the same old way? Why don't we change? But change what? So far, we have been looking for this in the external world. Maybe we change this. Maybe we start looking for this internally. May be this is not an external problem and may be the solution could be found inside.

The Game

Don't play the game for winning or losing. Play the game for the sheer joy of playing. To play the game is itself the reward. When you play the game that you enjoy and when you enjoy the game that you play, you play your best game. Play the game that you enjoy playing. Do the work that you enjoy doing.

Gita

Gita is the song of the Lord. It is Krishna's call to everyone to get back home. It seems that we have wandered far away from our home and like a shepherd guiding his sheep, Krishna is guiding us back to our home. So, it is a journey from forgetfulness to remembrance. Remembering who we are and where did we come from, and where we also need to return. Krishna is saying to all of us - come to me. Maamekam sharanam vraj .  Krishna is everywhere. He also resides in our hearts. We all came from him. We are a small part of Krishna and there is a small spark of his divinity inside all of us. He is asking us to go back to him, the source. He is our home. Going back home is going back to Krishna and that is going inside to the innermost layers of our beings, and connecting with the Krishna that is inside our hearts. And how could we do that? What keeps us away from him and what lies between him and us? Why have we drifted away? We have many desires, and these desires pull us away. Our sens...

Shunya

The ultimate destination of this seemingly enigmatic journey called life is Shunya . A life is a chain of endless doing. This doing never stops. And if we believe in re-birth, then a person is on an endless journey of lives, one after the other, with brief pauses in between, known as death. But as Upanishads tell us, this chain of events can stop. The main import is this that there is a state after reaching which, possibly there is no return, i.e. one is not born again. This state is the state of shunya , which is the final destination of our journey. Shunya is when nothing remains. When we lose everything that we have, we enter that state. We need to get rid of our personalities and our possessions, such as desire, attachments, passion, greed, fear, everything. We need to drop the three qualities of our being, which is sattva, rajasa and tamasa. We can do that only when we realize that we have these possessions. We can have this realization only when we watch ourselves and make an...
